Lions Defeat Panthers to go Four and One on The Season

DETROIT, Oct. 9, 2023 ~ With determination and ease, the Detroit Lions defeated the Carolina Panthers 42-24 at Ford Field on Sunday.

The well-earned week five victory moved the team to 4-1 on the season; a position the Lions have not been in since 2011.

Despite injuries taking out some key players, including star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and running back Jahmyr Gibbs, the Lions dominated the game and demonstrated the truth of Dan Campbell‘s “Next Man Up” philosophy.

Yet again, David Montgomery was on fire, becoming the Lions first running back to rush 100-plus yards to score a touchdown in back-to-back games since Kevin Jones in 2004. Rookie Sam LaPorta played 52 of the 60 snaps and scored two touchdowns during the game, boosting his young, but successful, career. Aiden Hutchinson pulled off a one-handed grab interception in the first quarter and continued to assert pressure on Panthers quarterback Bryce Young throughout the game. Quarterback Jard Goff had yet another great performance, throwing three touchdown passes.
