BOYNE FALLS, Michigan, October 17, 2022 ~ SkyBridge Michigan, the longest timber-towered suspension bridge in the world, is now open to the public at Boyne Mountain.

Standing five-feet wide, 118-feet high, and extending 1,200-feet long, the bridge connects the peak of McLouth and the summit of Disciples Ridge to provide visitors with year-round access to exquisite vista views.

Just talking about it is making my palms sweat,” said 760 WJR Senior News Analyst Chris Renwick to 760 WJR’s Guy Gordon. “I was able to be one of the first of maybe a hundred people to walk across the bridge … The magnitude of it … the way its constructed … and then, when you get to the middle of it … there’s a glass floor so you can look right down in that valley … then you look out and you’re able to see – at this moment in fall – all the colors … absolutely breathtaking.”

(CONTINUED) The same group behind the design of the bridge led Tennessee‘s Gatlinburg SkyBridge project. The towers of the new SkyBridge are constructed from wood timbers, sourced from Matelski Lumber in Boyne Falls. The main cable is galvanized steel, and the walking surface is steel framing with a pultruded grating deck.

The bridge is accessible through the mountain’s Hemlock chairlift, with overnight guests of Boyne Mountain, as well as day trippers with tickets, able to cross.
