LANSING, September 23, 2022 ~ The Michigan Bureau of Elections is considering an alleged breach of federal law following a complaint that Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson illegally shared the state’s voter rolls with a third party.

The complaint came on behalf of the conservative non-profit organization Pure Integrity Michigan Elections (PIME), who says that SOS Benson’s actions violate the Help America Vote Act.

Federal law prohibits the Secretary of State, or anyone, from sharing Michigan’s private, personal information of its voters…other than authorized people within the state,” said PIME President Patrice Johnson to 760 WJR’s Tom Jordan and Kevin Dietz. “Secretary of State Benson signed an agreement in 2019 that put us in the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC).

(CONTINUED) ERIC is a non-profit created by seven states in 2012 that compares a state’s voter records with records of other member states — as well as Social Security and the USPS — to help purge voter rolls of duplicate registrations, as well as registrations for individuals who have moved or died.

That organization is a third-party organization that is not subject to FOIA (Freedom of Information Act)…and they have in their agreement that they share information with their contractors and subcontractors,” said Johnson. “Michigan residents’ private information is being shared with a third party organization which is then sharing that information with untold organizations.”
