Two Men Found Guilty of Conspiring to Kidnap Governor Whitmer

DETROIT, August 23, 2022 ~ Tuesday, a federal jury found Adam Fox and Barry Croft Jr. guilty on one count of conspiring to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer and one count of conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction.

Prosecutors alleged that Fox led the plot to abduct the Governor from her summer home, and that Croft practiced using explosive devices to prepare for the kidnapping.

You can’t just strap on an AR-15 and body armor and go snatch the Governor,” said  Prosecutor Nils Kessler during the closing arguments.

“You can’t snatch anybody, and you certainly can’t make bombs that are meant to maim and kill people. And this case is about a plot to abduct Governor Whitmer. But that wasn’t these defendants ultimate goalThey wanted to set off a second American Civil War and the second American Revolution.”

Both men face the maximum sentence of life in prison.
