July 14, 2022 ~ WJR Sports Analyst Steve Courtney talks with MSU Basketball Coach Tom Izzo about the upcoming Veterans Day game on the USS Abraham Lincoln.

(CONTINUED) “I know our players, coaches and staff, and all of Michigan State Athletics are very excited about the opportunity to play a tremendous program like Gonzaga on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln while honoring all of those who serve in our military,” said MSU Basketball Coach Tom Izzo in a release.

The ESPN Armed Forces Classic series was created in 2012, but the last eight have been played on American military bases both in the US, and overseas.

The showdown on the USS Abraham Lincoln will be the first NCAA Basketball game on an aircraft carrier in a decade, with only one game finished since the inaugural Carrier Classic when MSU faced North Carolina aboard the USS Carl Vinson.
