LANSING, July 7, 2022 ~ Since the 2018 primary election, Michigan clerks have received a 73 percent increase in absentee ballot requests, with more than 875,000 applications filed and less than a month until the August 2 midterm election.
However, some are still not sold on the idea of widespread mail-in voting.
“When you do go to the precinct and vote, if you have done something that is not quite right, the machine will tell you and give back your ballot,” said Michigan Senator and former Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson to 760 WJR‘s Tom Jordan. “We don’t know whose ballot that is when you send in absentee.”

(CONTINUED) A release from Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s office stated that nearly 11 percent of more than 8.3 million registered voters in Michigan have requested absentee ballots.
“Voters have options in Michigan,” said SOS Benson in a statement. “And however you cast your ballot, you can have confidence that every vote will be counted securely and your voice will be heard in your community.”
