DETROIT, June 6, 2022 ~ Penske Driver Will Power crossed the finish line just one second ahead of Andretti‘s Alexander Rossi, marking his first win of the season, and his third career win on Belle Isle.

It did feel good … it really did. After letting it go last year, with five laps to go and the car wouldn’t start,” said Power to 760 WJR‘s Paul W. Smith. “I really felt that it was one of my best performances in a long time.”

Below, hear Will tell Paul W. Smith what it is to win a historic race in its final year before changing course for the first time since 1992, and see photos of him taking a celebratory swim in Belle Isle’s James Scott Memorial Fountain.

DETROIT, June 3, 2022 ~ The historic Belle Isle Scott Fountain has been turned on this morning, marking the final weekend the Detroit Grand Prix will be held on the island.

Starting next year, spectators will again line the sidewalks of Downtown Detroit and gather in Hart Plaza to see the cars fly by … engines screaming.

It started downtown, and we are bringing it back downtown after 40 years,” said Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix Chairman Bud Denker. “And our circuit is such that it’s not going to inhibit any businesses, it’s going to help the businesses. No businesses are going to close because of the circuit we have designed.

To close an action packed era filled with races, practices, and qualifiers, the green flag will start the final Belle Isle Grand Prix at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday.

Below, hear Paul W. Smith talk with Chairman Denker, as well as racing drivers and local auto executives, including Roger Penske, “The Dean of Auto Racing,” about the Formula One-turned-IndyCar event, and how it has shaped 40 years of fun in Detroit.
