DETROIT, May 2, 2022 ~ The Detroit Red Wings will not renew Head Coach Jeff Blashill’s contract after seven seasons with the team, following the sixth consecutive season missing the NHL Playoffs.

Wings General Manager Steve Yzerman took the time to compliment his former coach, but admitted that it was time to move on.

Jeff Blashill is a good hockey coach,” Yzerman said. “He ran a really good program. I can certainly attest to our program for the last three years because it’s been dictated by me…I say this sincerely, Jeff did an outstanding job leading this team, this organization, in a very, very difficult circumstance.”

Pardon the expression, but he ran a good program. This wasn’t a complete s***show.”
