February 17, 2022 ~ Firefighters rushed to the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township Wednesday morning after receiving a report of smoke in and around the historic structure.

An investigation discovered a fire in the attic, which quickly spread. As calls for backup went out, staffers at the club worked feverishly to remove several pieces of historic art, as well as trophies and other memorabilia.

Water main issues, wind and weather, and the age of the structure all worked against firefighters, as their efforts stretched into the late afternoon.

Oakland Hills Country Club was the second-largest wood structure in the state of Michigan, second only to Mackinac Island’s Grand Hotel.

Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
