DENVER, October 22, 2021 ~ Thursday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has confirmed that it had found the remains of Gabby Petito’s fiancé Brian Laundrie, who is the only person of interest relating to her death.

Wednesday, partial remains were found on a trail in the environmental park, along with a backpack and notebook that belonged to Laundrie. Laundrie’s parents told police they believed he was heading to Carlton Reserve when they reported him missing last month, which is located just across a road from Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park.

It is unknown at this time if the backpack or notebook contain any noteworthy evidence.

A comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found in Carlton Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in Sarasota County, Florida were Brian Laundrie, according to the FBI Denver Field Office, the team in charge of the investigation.

On October 21, 2021, a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found at the T. Mabry Carlton, Jr. Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park are those of Brian Laundrie,” said the agency in a Tweet.

Petito’s parents reported Gabby missing on September 11 after trying to contact their daughter for a week. Gabby was last seen on August 27 at a diner in Wyoming. Brian was reportedly seen by multiple witnesses arguing with female restaurant workers.

Laundrie’s parents reported him missing on September 17, just two days before Gabby Petito’s body was found near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. An autopsy conducted by Teton County Coroner’s Office found that 22-year-old Petito died from homicide caused by strangulation.

Chris and Roberta Laundrie, Brian’s parents, lead authorities themselves to the remains of their son while visiting the park with officers where they said their son liked to hike. More ground was visible after water levels receded significantly since Chris visited the same area on October 7.

Petito and Laundrie had been on a months-long trip visiting national parks while documenting the trip on social media. Laundrie gained national attention when he returned to his home in Petito’s van without her, and said nothing regarding her disappearance before disappearing less than two weeks later.

Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been informed that the remains found yesterday in the reserve are indeed Brian’s. We have no further comment at this time and we ask that you respect the Laundrie’s privacy at this time,” said the Laundrie’s Attorney Steven Bertolino.
