DETROIT, August 23, 2021 ~ Sunday, Miguel Cabrera became the 28th player to join the 500 home run club, when he sent the ball soaring over the scoreboard against the Blue Jays in Toronto.

\”It\’s something special for my country, for my family, to be able to do this,\’\’ said Cabrera. \”I\’m really happy.\’\’

He is the first player in MLB history to hit number 500 while wearing a Detroit Tigers uniform.

According to Statcast, the run had an exit velocity of 104.1 miles per hour, and traveled 400 feet, landing over the scoreboard in right-center field. The ball was retrieved and verified by MLB authenticators before being presented to Cabrera in the Tigers’ clubhouse.

The fans at the stadium rose for a standing ovation as Cabrera rounded the bases. After celebrating with his team, Cabrera came out of the dugout for a curtain call.

Our bullpen catcher had the ball. He gave it to me and I appreciated that,” said Cabrera. “I want to save it. It’ll be something special in my house. I’m excited.”

The Tigers won the game 5-3 after 11 innings.

The Detroit Tigers announced they will host a “Miggy Celebration Day” on Friday, September 24 at Comerica Park.
