James Craig Announces Formation of Governor Exploratory Committee

LANSING, July 21, 2021 ~ Wednesday, Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig announced his formation of an exploratory committee.

\”I will be talking with law enforcement, hosting small business roundtables, and meeting with voters in their homes to hear about the negative impact the current governor’s policies are having on their communities, their workplaces and their families,\” said Craig.

In a news release, Craig stated that his formal announcement for governor \”will likely occur after Labor Day when voters begin paying closer attention to the 2022 elections.\”

July 21, 2021 ~ Lloyd Jackson tells Kevin Dietz about Chief James Craig\’s Governor Exploratory Committee and the funds Governor Whitmer has raised for her campaign.

Monday, former Executive Director of the Michigan Republican Party Jeff Timmer filed a complaint that Craig violated the Michigan Campaign Finance Act by spending money to advance his candidacy without first forming a committee. However, under Michigan law, there is nothing distinguishing between committees formed by formally running candidates, and those who are still exploring the idea of running.

Waiting until Wednesday to form a committee means Craig will not be required to release a campaign finance report, while Governor Gretchen Whitmer and other candidates are required to file on Monday with the Michigan Secretary of State’s office.

James Craig is expected to appear on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Wednesday evening on Fox News following a statement to Carlson last week saying he had a major announcement to make.
