DETROIT, July 16, 2021 ~ Friday, Metro Detroit is experiencing heavy rains again, and residents should prepare for more flooding.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flood warning for Wayne County, in effect until 5:15 p.m. Macomb, Oakland, and Washtenaw counties are also under flood advisory.
\”Showers and thunderstorms will slowly end from west to east by Saturday morning as the whole system pushes to the east,\” said a statement from NWS. \”High pressure to the north will expand across the western Great Lakes over the weekend bringing dry conditions and clearer skies that will likely last through mid next week. Temperatures will also moderate back into the 80s starting Sunday.\”

DTE Energy reported that nearly 14,000 homes and businesses are without power.
Dearborn residents have been experiencing emergency sirens every half hour since noon to remind residents to minimize travel, as underpasses around the city have flooded. Water and sewage crews are tending to the flooded areas near Greenfield and Michigan Avenue.
\”The system can just not handle that much torrential downpours in such a period of time. So when we got the message, we got the crews out here, we put generators to assist the pump house and the pump house appears to be working fine, but it\’s just too much water in so much time,\” said Wayne County Engineer Steven Shaya. \”Our staff is ready and prepared to monitor all the areas.\”
