PODCASTS:

July 5, 2021 ~ Sarah Zigila speaks with Guy Gordon about her position as Vice President of Operations & Partnerships for Orbis Holding Group and how she impacts her industry as a professional trainer and human resources expert. Sarah also talks about her recent appointment as one of the Detroit Economic Club’s 2021 Rising Stars.

In the community, Sarah is truly a ray of sunshine that brightens the world around her. Earlier in her career, she was a program facilitator with Winning Futures where she inspired and prepared high school students to reach their personal success. After earning her Master of Training & Development, Sarah moved on to working in the human resources industry. However, she continued to make an impact on the community. In addition to being on DEC’s Young Leaders Board of Directors, Sarah has continued to be a volunteer mentor with Winning Futures to guide her mentees through the difficulties of school, the pandemic, and making tough decisions about their lives.

Sarah has been a critical mentor specifically for one of her mentees at Mumford High School. Her student was really struggling. Throughout the pandemic, Sarah was in constant contact helping her mentee through personal issues and problems at school.

In the program, her mentee could apply for a scholarship, but did not have the confidence to take the first step. Sarah encouraged her and gave her a nudge. Then, Sarah helped her mentee practice her interviewing skills and scheduled multiple mock interviews by Zoom so the student was ready for the scholarship interview. Her mentee nailed the interview and won a $1,000 scholarship!

As the scholarship event, Sarah’s mentee said:

“Sarah, thank you so much for seeing the same potential that I see in myself! It couldn\’t have been possible without you. Your words have been a never-ending source of inspiration and motivation for me! You have helped to sooth my worries about college, and even better it\’s helped me to think about the future more! About a year ago I didn\’t want to think about what my future entailed, it was too daunting, but now I can say what my direction is in life with confidence!”

A little bit more about Sarah:

When I reflect on a moment that I am proud of, I think of…

\”Earning my master’s degree and sharing that moment with my nieces. It was important for me to show them that goals matter and dreams are possible at any age and that it is never too late to achieve what is important to you.\”

As I continue to grow, I am hopeful for…

\”A more inclusive world…that all dimensions of diversity are welcomed, supported, encouraged, and empowered. Especially women! We belong at the table, deserve to lean in, and share our stories and ideas.\”

During my free time, I …

\”Spend time with my wife, fur baby, family, and friends, enjoy Zumba classes and swimming, watch movies, listen to music and powerful audible books.\”

If I could give advice to my 20-year-old self, I would say…

\”Live authentically and know that other people’s perception of you is not your business!\”

20 years from now, I see myself…

\”Running my own business, making positive change in the community, and traveling the world.\”
