Governor Whitmer Announces Lessened COVID-19 Restrictions

LANSING, May 20, 2021 ~ Thursday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer held a conference informing Michiganders on COVID-19 restriction updates.

Starting June 1, all outdoor capacity limits will be lifted, meaning venues like Comerica Park can allow full seating.  Indoor capacity limits will still be limited to 50%, though the 11 p.m. curfew for bars and restaurants will be lifted.

Businesses and workplaces are still allowed to require masks for people to enter.

\”After a year of living with COVID with masks and distancing and handwashing, I know how jarring changes to our lives will feel,\” Whitmer said. \”Everyone processes change at different speeds and different ways.\”

Whitmer then went on to say the broad mask and gathering orders will be lifted on July 1.

Unless, of course, unanticipated circumstances arise,” Whitmer said. “We do not expect that to happen. We look at this as the last moment of these types of orders.”

The official updated orders will be released on Monday.
