LANSING, May 4, 2021 ~ Monday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced Michigan now has more than 50% of its residents over the age of 16 vaccinated.
“Today, Michigan will surpass seven million doses administered of the safe, effective COVID-19 vaccines,” Governor Whitmer said Monday. “We’ve put shots in arms of one in two Michiganders 16 and up and over one in three are fully vaccinated, including two in three seniors.”
Last week, Whitmer stated that specific restrictions will be lifted once certain vaccination percentage thresholds have been reached.

The first reopening will trigger after 55% of residents have been vaccinated. At that point, in-person work will open for all sectors of business.
“Our rollout continues to speed up,” Whitmer said. “We administered 6 million doses in just over four months. As we get closer to achieving our goal of equitably vaccinating 70% of Michiganders 16 and up, we have to remember that we are still in this fight against the virus.”
