LANSING, April 9, 2021 ~ Governor Gretchen Whitmer has requested Michigan high schools offer remote learning, youth athletics pause, and for residents to avoid dining at indoor restaurants for two weeks.

We need everyone to step up and to take personal responsibility here,” the Governor said. “So I’m not taking any options off the table, but in this moment, we are strongly urging that public schools and youth sports voluntarily take action. We are strongly urging restaurants and diners to be smart and eat outdoors or get takeout. We know what works.”

Emphasizing that the statement was a request, and not a mandate, the governor said people taking action on their own is the only way to stop a rise in cases.

\”We all know what works, and this has to be a team effort. We have to do this together — lives depend on it,\” Whitmer said in a news conference Friday. \”This is my ask to you, the people of Michigan. Please redouble your efforts on these fronts for the next couple of weeks.\”

She made sure to remind people that, “the recent rise in cases is a reminder that we are still in the tunnel.” Whitmer added, “The only way out is forward and together.”
