WASHINGTON DC, March 24, 2021 ~ President Biden encouraged the Senate to create stricter gun control laws following a shooting in Boulder, Colorado that left 10 dead, including a police officer.
“I don’t need to wait another minute, let alone another hour, to take common sense steps that will save lives in the future.” \”I got that done as a senator. It brought down mass shootings, we can do it again,\” Biden told reporters at the White House. “We can ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines once again.”
The bill, H.R.8, would introduce universal background checks. This would prohibit private sales, trades, and even temporary borrowing of firearms, without a licensed dealer, manufacturer, or importer taking possession and conducting a criminal background check on the receiving party.

In 2013, the Senate attempted to pass a gun control reform bill, though it failed with a 40-60 vote.
\”The Democrats\’ proposal every time is always the same, which is take away guns from law-abiding citizens,\” Senator Ted Cruz told Fox News this Tuesday. “That is their political agenda every single day. It doesn\’t work, it doesn\’t reduce crime. And in fact it makes it worse because it disarms the potential victims and makes them vulnerable to criminals.\”
Former President Barack Obama had comments regarding the issue as well.
\”It is long past time for those with the power to fight this epidemic of gun violence to do so. It will take time to root out the disaffection, racism and misogyny that fuels so many of these senseless acts of violence,\” Obama said in a statement Tuesday.
The House passed a background check extension in March, expanding federal background checks on all firearms and extending the review period for background checks from three to a minimum of 10 business days.
