PORTAGE, MI, February 19, 2021 ~ President Biden Friday visited the State of Michigan for the first time since becoming president, touring Pfizer’s Kalamazoo operation, where the BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is manufactured.

I came here because I want the American people to understand the extraordinary — extraordinary work that’s being done to undertake the most difficult operational challenge this nation has ever faced,” said Biden.

His visit comes as Pfizer launches their “Project Light Speed” initiative, which aims to increase vaccine production and distribution by 50 percent.  The company is already on track to produce more that 200-million doses by the end of May, which is two months ahead of their original schedule.

In his remarks, Biden sought to tout his administration’s accomplishments in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to detail his plans for moving forward.  Those plans include funding through FEMA to help bolster each state\’s distribution efforts, the deployment of federal employees to help administer the vaccine, making vaccines available at local pharmacies, and providing funding for mobile clinics to help reach those in rural communities.

Just over four weeks ago, America had no real plan to vaccinate most of the country,” said Biden.   “My predecessor — as my mother would say, “God love him” — failed to order enough vaccines, failed to mobilize the effort to administer the shots, failed to set up vaccine centers.  That changed the moment we took office.”
