Canada Expands Border Crossing Restrictions

DETROIT, February 15, 2021 ~ The government of Canada announced Friday expanded restrictions at their 16 Canadian land borders, including the two located in Windsor / Detroit.

Among the changes, border agents will be empowered beginning February 22 with COVID-19 molecular test kits.  Most individuals, with the exception of truck drivers and emergency service workers, will be required to take one of these tests in order to enter Canada.

Currently, those wishing to enter Canada need to provide their own proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular test from a test taken within 72 hours of arrival.

Also required at land crossings beginning February 22 is use of the ArriveCAN app.  Travelers will be required to use this app in advance of border arrival to determine if their visit is permissible, as well as to submit their travel itinerary, contact details, and 14-day quarantine plan.

With these additional COVID testing requirements and safety measures at the land border, we are taking extra steps to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and its variants” said Canadian Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Bill Blair

As we do for air travel, we are now also requiring travelers by land to provide information using ArriveCAN to facilitate processing and limit points of contacts between border services officers and travelers. We’ll always prioritize the health and safety of Canadians as we make decisions.
