LANSING, December 8, 2020 ~ Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced Monday that the partial lockdown order in place is to be extended through Sunday, December 20. The lockdown was given a 12 day extension after originally being set to end midnight on Tuesday, December 10.

The order comes as a response to positive cases reaching the highest levels since April, with over 14% of test results coming back with positive. As well, many hospitals announced they are extremely low on available beds due to rising numbers of incoming patients.

The extension prohibits indoor dining, in person university and high school classes, as well as attendance to theatres, group fitness classes and casinos. Director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Robert Gordon stated that in-person learning for high schools will be prioritized when things begin to reopen. The Governor is also encouraging people to refrain from attending holiday gatherings this season.
