Guv Urges Masks; GOP Stalwart Dies After CV

A growing cry of concern about COVID-19. There has been a sharp increase in the number of corona virus cases being reported and Governor Whitmer said state residents have to take these increases seriously.  Health officials reported there were 1,597 new cases of the virus and 33 more deaths yesterday. The governor said the numbers are not good and there is the possibility of an outbreak getting out of control. She repeated advice often heard from health officials … wear a mask, practice social distancing and avoid large social gatherings. Whitmer said she knows people are frustrated, but that it is important to remember that ‘we are not done with COVID-19 because it’s not done with us.’

Because of concerns about pandemic concerns on gatherings, a private family memorial service is being planned for Peter Seccia. The West Michigan businessman who was a long time figure in Republican politics died yesterday following complications brought on by the corona virus. The 83 year old Secchia had been involved in Republican fundraising and philanthropy for decades and served as the  ambassador to Italy and San Marino under former President George H.W. Bush from 1989 until 1992.

With less than two weeks before the November election, the Clinton Township Election Department has had to close because three employees tested positive for the corona virus. All employees will be tested and Township clerk Kim Meltzer said she expects the department will reopen on Monday. In the meantime, she said there is staff on hand to empty outdoor voting boxes.
