There is plenty of confusion among Michigan businesses and entertainment centers in the aftermath of a state Supreme Court ruling that rejected Governor Whitmer’s request for a 28-delay of its decision striking down a law she had used in issuing executive orders for dealing with the corona virus pandemic. The high court rejected her request yesterday in a 6-1 decision. At the same time, new emergency orders that the governor’s administration had issued through the state health department are not affected by the ruling. Those rulings included mask requirements, restrictions on the sizes of indoor and outdoor gatherings, and restaurant capacities. The Supreme Court did say that its ruling leaves open many avenues for the governor and the legislature to work together.
Michigan health officials say there have been 1,809 newly confirmed cases of the corona virus and seven deaths. The state has now reported 6,898 deaths among 136,465 cases.
