First Iraqi-American Federal Judge

An Oakland County judge will become the first Chaldean American to serve as a federal judge.

Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Hala Jarbou has won U-S Senate confirmation to fill a vacancy on the U-S District Court. Jarbou will serve on the federal court in West Michigan.
Jarbou was born in northern Iraq in 1971 and immigrated with her family to the U-S as a child. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in 1994 and her law degree at Wayne State in 1997. Before becoming a county judge in 2015, she served as an assistant prosecutor for 13 years in Oakland County and as a U-S Attorney in Detroit for five years. She was appointed by Pres. Trump.
