Trump Stops Evictions; Empty Hotel Rooms

The Trump administration has announced an order that will ban housing evictions for most renters for the rest of the year. The CDC says the action was necessary to prevent renters facing homelessness ending up in shelters or other crowded living conditions.

The hotel industry says advance bookings are a third what they were for last year’s Labor Day holiday weekend. Health experts are urging Americans to avoid large gatherings to prevent increases in cases as seen after Memorial Day and the 4th of July.

The Sturgis motorcycle rally — which drew hundreds of thousands of riders to South Dakota in early August — is now linked to 263 coronavirus cases in a dozen states across the country. About 100 cases are in South Dakota, but some cases are as far away as New Hampshire.

Florida’s governor will lift the ban on visiting residents in nursing homes and long-term care facilities. The families of more than 150,000 residents of long-term care facilities will be allowed to see their loved ones as early as today with some restrictions.
