Detroit Teachers Talk Strike Over CV

Detroit teachers today are expected to express their views on returning to the classroom in the fall. The 4-thousand members of Detroit Federation of Teachers are to vote today on whether to strike over safety concerns about the corona virus pandemic. DFT President Terrence Martin explained that teachers are not confident that they will be adequately protected if they return to work. He added that this would not be a traditional work stoppage, but a ‘safety strike.’ Michigan law prevents teacher’s strikes. It remains to be seen how a ‘safety strike’ would be interpreted if teachers have health concerns, but are willing to work in a virtual work setting.
