Guv Reimposes Restrictions Up North, Opens Detroit Casinos

Governor Whitmer has announced that Detroit’s three casinos will be allowed to reopen on August 5th, but must restrict capacity to 15-percent. At the same time, she is reimposing some restrictions in the state’s northern regions. Starting Friday, indoor bar serving is being stopped and indoor gatherings of more than ten people will not be allowed. This clamps down on the up-north economy. Whitmer said a resurgence of corona virus cases up north prompted her actions. As for the Detroit casinos, the governor said casinos have been operating safely across the country and in Michigan’s tribal areas and should be able to do so in Detroit as well.

Michigan confirmed 996 new cases of the virus yesterday. The number included 300 older cases from a backlog of test results. The state has now reported over 80-thousand cases with 6,172 deaths.
