Extra Federal Officers Assigned To Detroit

More Federal officers are coming to Detroit. The U.S. Department of Justice announced that 42 agents will be sent to the city as part of “Operation Legend.” The officers will be from the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms Department, The FBI, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. “Operation Legend” is President Trump’s program to curb violence in cities. Agents will also be sent to Chicago and Albuquerque.
Besides the 42 agents from the departments, an additional 10 ATF agents in Detroit have been re-assigned to work on violent gun crimes.
U.S. Attorney Matthew Schnieder says his office will work with the agents and Detroit Police Department to combat gun and gang violence. Mayor Duggan and Police Chief Craig have said they would welcome help in getting guns off the street. So has the mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot. But the mayors oppose using federal officers to patrol anti-police protests.
