Detroit automakers are well on the road to making up for lost time in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. The automakers had been shut down for eight weeks and resumed part-time production five weeks ago. Now, all are up and running on a full schedule. Ford returned to a full schedule today, two weeks sooner than it had planned. Fiat Chrysler also returns to full production today with the start of its second shift at its Belvidere, Illinois plant. General Motors reports all of its U-S truck and SUV plants are back on three shifts. Analysts say the resumption of full production is a sign that new auto plant safety regulations are working and that there is a strong demand in the marketplace for new vehicles.
