UAW, US Atty To Negotiate Union Reforms

The U-S Attorney in Detroit and the president of the UAW will meet to try to map out a plan to further clean up the union in the wake of the scandal which has seen convictions of a former union president and numerous other officials, along with some former auto industry executives.
U-S Attorney Matthew Schneider and UAW President Rory Gamble have set a meeting for June 30th. A written statement says they want to put in place mechanisms and protections to eliminate corruption and ensure that it does not return.
Schneider’s statement commends that efforts by Gamble to reform the union.
It’s the first indication that the U-S government may not stage a takeover of the UAW.
A statement by Gamble says he wants to further efforts on the ongoing reforms which have already been put in place.
