The state health department reports 11 deaths 638 new cases of corona virus. But many county health departments close on weekends. Michigan has nearly 49-hundred deaths.
About 20-thousand people a day are being tested.
Automakers begin opening plants today. GM, Ford, and Fiat Chrysler all have plans to give tests to any worker showing symptoms of corona virus. GM says it will be able to give tests on the spot at the factories. Ford is hiring temps to cover what the company expects to be increased absenteeism.
President Trump will visit the Ford Rawsonville plant Thursday, where Ford is making ventilators.
The Capri Drive In in Coldwater is open and showing movies. Turnout was heavy. All movie theatres, including drive ins, are supposed to be closed by the governor’s order. The owner was given a warning by State Police, but he says he intends to stay open. An animal park and a salon are among other businesses that were open in defiance.
Karl Manke, the defiant barber in Owosso, will get a special visitor.
Shelley Luther, the Dallas, Texas salon owner who went to jail because she stayed open in defiance of a Texas order, will visit Manke today, to show moral support for the 77 year old barber who had his license lifted by the state and faces misdemeanor charges.
Protestors showed up at Grand Haven Beach.
The sheriff of Barry County, Dar Leaf, will attend a protest in Grand Rapids today. The sheriff is not enforcing the stay at home order.
Shepler’s will begin ferry service to Mackinac Island May 29th.
