Ypsi Man Charged With Data Theft For Iran

An Ypsilanti engineer from Iran is charged with stealing secret data about a super-computer and sending it to his brother in Iran.

Amin Hassanzadeh e-mailed confidential data about an aerospace super-computer to his brother, who is linked to the Iran nuclear weapons program. That’s according to documents in federal court in Detroit. Hassanzadeh is in custody pending a court hearing Friday. Hassanzadeh worked for the aerospace company, and now works at the University of Michigan engineering department. The court filing says the information made it possible for the brother in Iran to recreate the computer designs. His wife, who received a doctorate from U of M, had thousands of documents from the aerospace company in her university e-mail account. She is not charged.
