Ford Acts On Trans Troubles

Owners of some Ford Fiesta and Focus models get a victory in their effort to deal with troublesome transmissions.

Ford says warranty coverage will be extended for the cars from the 2014 thru 2016 model years for the dual-clutch transmission.

Ford will also reach out to a small group of Fiesta and Focus owners that have not received a software upgrade for the transmission control module. The upgrade provides an advanced warning should the control module fail. Owners will be eligible for free replacement modules if they fail.
Ford also plans to reimburse customers who’ve carried out clutch repairs and paid them out of pocket. The extended coverage puts these owners back into a warranty period.

A lawsuit still is pending that alleges Ford knew the transmission did not perform well but sold the cars anyway.
