Prosecutor’s Home Raided

Michigan State Police have executed a raid at the home of Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith in Macomb Township,

The raid is in connection to a state police investigation into the office’s use of forfeiture funds. State Police have no comment.
At issue is more than 900-thousand dollars which some county officials say was spent improperly by the prosecutor. A member of the county board of commissioners, Leon Drolet, says complaints surfaced, and the county board then examined records. Drolet said they found checks made out to some charities, churches, and even for an ad in a high school yearbook.

They also found payments on credit card accounts.

Money forfeited by drunk drivers and drug suspects is supposed to go for law enforcement purposes.
Prosecutor Smith has said he is cooperating fully with the investigation.
