The push is on for a single grade of gasoline to be sold across America
The auto industry has begun lobbying for 95 octane to be the new regular gas, and the only grade of gas.
A U-S House subcommittee is collecting information.
The industry says 95 octane is the most affordable way to boost fuel economy and reduce C-O-2 emissions. Those are the goals of federal regulations that the Trump Administration is dumping.
A single, higher octane has obvious cost benefits for auto companies, which could then standardize some design and production.
But what about the cost of the gas? Premium gas now is about 50 cents a gallon more expensive than regular.
Experts say the refining process would be cheaper than what oil companies have now, and that motorists would get 3-percent better mileage for less than 3-percent of the cost.
Europe has had the 95 octane level for years.
