Two Detroit area cities rank at the bottom when in comes to diversity. The least diverse city in America, according to a demographic profile, is Detroit itself. The second least diverse city in this survey is the Detroit suburb of Livonia. The study was done by wallethub.com. The website studied the demographic profiles of 313 American cities. It compared the profiles in four major categories: social class, ethno-racial, economic, and household diversity. Detroit was dead last, at 313. Livonia was 312. Also ranking low in diversity was Parma, Ohio, at 310 out of 313. Erie, Pennsylvania, 308. Toledo was 304. The most diverse city in America, according to this analysis, is Gaithersburg, Maryland, outside of Washington D.C.
Yakima, Washington has the highest industry diversity, 3 times higher than Ann Arbor, which has the lowest industry diversity in the U.S. Michigan ranks extremely low in the ranks of diversity. The most diverse city in Michigan, is Troy, which ranks 204th out of 313 cities in the survey; next is Grand Rapids at 256.
