A former Detroit Mayor has died.
Roman Gribbs, who was Detroit’s oldest living mayor, rose from Wayne County sheriff to mayor while Detroit was dealing with the effects of the 1967 riots. He decided not to run for re-election and was succeeded by Coleman Young. Gribbs also served in the Michigan Court of Appeals for 20 years. Mayor Mike Duggan says “Roman Gribbs was the textbook definition of a dedicated public servant.”
Roman Gribbs was 90.
