In the wake of the Flint water crisis, a group of state lawmakers are calling for the immediate termination of Detroit Public Schools’ emergency manager Darnell Earley. Earley has been in charge of DPS since last January, but before that he was Flint’s Emergency Manager. Both flint and DPS have dominated both state and national headlines for several weeks as teachers and students have stage protests. Both groups say they are tired of over-crowded classes, subpar buildings, and outdated textbooks. State Senator Morris Hood III says control of DPS should be returned to the school board. The Snyder administration has not commented on whether or not Earley will be let go.
