If you your taxes are too high, be grateful if you don’t live in New York Connecticut, or New Jersey. Correspondent Michael Toscano reports it would be worse if you live in one of three states. The aforementioned states rank one, two, and three, respectively, when it comes to combined state and local taxes. The Tax Foundation think tank says that’s because people earn more in those states and are willing to pay more for schools, roads, and police. They also pay more estate and property taxes. The tax burden in New York is 12.7%, followed by Connecticut at 12.6%, and New Jersey at 12.2%. The national average is just under 10%. People in Alaska, South Dakota, and Wyoming pay the lowest taxes.
