DETROIT, MI – Ford Motor Co. is set to announce Friday a $2.5 billion investment in Mexico, according to Reuters. The Dearborn automaker will expand its plant in Chihuahua as part of a $1.3 billion investment. There, it plans to build two new diesel engines, though the size and vehicle destination of those engines are not yet known. Ford also plans to invest another $1.2 million in a transmission plant in Guanajuato.
The Friday announcement in Mexico City marks Ford’s 90th year in the country, where Ford currently builds a 6.7L V-8 turbo diesel for its Super Duty trucks and a 4.4L turbo V-8 for the Range Rover SUV, according to Automotive News. The event is expected to be attended by Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto. The investment is expected to add about 4,000 jobs.
