EAST LANSING, MI — As the Michigan State University basketball team takes on Duke in a final four game Saturday night, the East Lansing Police Department is preparing to take on the post-game celebration. “We’re not really planning on anything happening but history tells us that there’s a potential and whenever we feel that there’s a potential we have to staff for it and we have to make plans just in case because it’s our job to protect the public. So we’ve done all that, put together plans and contingency plans,” said ELPD Deputy Chief Jeff Murphy on Saturday.
East Lansing Police Chief Juli Liebler said the department has been monitoring social media but has not yet seen an organized effort to get students in a particular area for post-game celebration. To celebrate Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight wins last weekend, students gathered near campus on Waters Edge Dr., the southern thoroughfare of the Cedar Village neighborhood.
