Ex-Detroit mayor can leave Mich. for job interview

DETROIT - Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick will be allowed to leave the state next week to interview for a job.  Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner on Wednesday approved Kilpatrick's request to travel outside Michigan following his release Tuesday from jail.

Kilpatrick has 24 hours after his release to report to probation officials. Attorney James Thomas says his client's interview is Feb. 4. Kilpatrick must return to Michigan by Feb. 9.  Where Kilpatrick would be going and where his family has relocated was not revealed in open court. However, Thomas did mention Texas.

Kilpatrick will be on probation for five years.  He lied during a whistle-blowers' trial about a romantic relationship with his ex-top aide and his role in a police official's firing.
