UAW Names Gamble Permanent President

The United Auto Workers have named acting President Rory Gamble the full-time president of the union until the June 2022 convention.

Gamble says ” I promise one thing, when I retire and turn over this office, we will deliver a clean union on solid footing.”

Gamble was the director of Region 1A for 12 years before being elected vice president and made the head of the Ford Department.
Gamble is the first African American UAW president.
In his first three weeks as acting president, Gamble carried out a series of ethics reforms, in the wake of the corruption investigation that swept out the former president Gary Jones and other officials.
Dissident union members are trying to remove the entire set of high-level officials and want direct membership election of union leadership.
