DPD Officer Killed By Gunman

An angry man looking for his girlfriend barged into a house in NW Detroit with a rifle— setting off a series of events that led to the shooting death of a longtime Detroit Police officer.
Police say they responded to the home invasion call at Pembroke and Wyoming. Residents ran out of the home as officers went in, looking for the man. They didn’t find him, and were going downstairs when the man appeared, and opened fire. He shot one officer in a leg, and hit the other officer in the neck. The officers returned fire, shooting the gunman.
The officer hit in the neck was declared dead at a hospital. the other officer is in serious condition.
The gunman is in serious condition. He was tracked down by police after running from the home and was shot in an exchange of gunfire.
Police say the gunman has a lengthy criminal record.
The officer who was killed was an 18 year veteran of the force.

he is the 10th DPD officer to die in the line of duty since 2010.
