Auto Contract Talks Ready At FCA

With the UAW voting on a new contract at Ford set to be completed by Friday, the union is getting ready to turn its attention to Fiat Chrysler.

There is concern that the potential merger between Fiat Chrysler and the French automaker Peugeot could complicate the talks.

Under the proposed merger, Fiat Chrysler would give up majority control of the new company’s board of directors.

Some UAW members fear the combined company would have them facing off with European workers for product allocation.

Supporters of the merger say a bigger and richer company could better compete in the future and provide more opportunities for more production in the U-S.

Another potential cloud hanging over the talks is the ongoing federal investigation into the misuse of union funds.

Fiat Chrysler was identified as a co-conspirator in that UAW corruption probe.
