Clock is Ticking in Auto Talks

There’s been plenty of posturing but little progress to report as the UAW and General Motors continue new contract talks.

GM is this years strike target.

The current four year contracts expire at 11:59 pm Saturday.

A top union official said late last week that the talks have been moving slowly.

He blamed the automaker’s slow responses to its proposals at the bargaining table.

GM officials did not respond.

In a letter sent to local union leaders last week, the UAW said it is hoping to reach a settlement, but is prepared to strike, but only as a last resort.

Union members, in turn, have given their leaders the authority to call a strike, if they deem it necessary.
