Rape Kit Project Update

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy says  her office’s sexual assault kit initiative continues to make progress.

The initiative was launched ten years ago with the discovery of evidence in sexual assault cases that had been found abandoned in a Detroit evidence warehouse on August 17th in 2009.

The prosecutors office, the Detroit Crime Commission, and ‘Enough Said,’ the public and private collaboration with Michigan Women First, then joined forces to raise funds to test the evidence in hopes of leading to charges in sex crimes that had remained unsolved.

Hundreds of suspects have been accused and convicted.

Worthy says she is delighted with the progress that has been made over the last decade.
