Cheating To Get $$ Meant For Disabled Veterans

A Bloomfield Hills man is scheduled to be sentenced today on his guilty plea to a scheme federal officials say defrauded the government out of nearly 12-million dollars in construction contracts.

Prosecutors say 62 year old William Kozerski and others illegally acquired six contracts under the Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business program for work on V-A medical centers in Detroit, Ann Arbor and Cleveland between 2007 and 2015.

In order to qualify for the contracts, small businesses had to be majority-owned by service-disabled veterans.

Kozerski falsely submitted paperwork saying that his company qualified for the program, although it did not have any disabled veterans on its staff.
