Teachers, Whitmer Rally For More Money

Some angry teachers are turning to Lansing today.

Members of the American Federation of Teacher and the Michigan Education Association are holding a protest rally. They want more money from the legislature, led by Republicans. They are joined by Gov. Whitmer.

They complain that teachers salaries have been dropping over the last ten years and that rising contributions for health care and retirement benefits leave then unable to provide for their families.

They say they have seen their take-home pay reduced because of state-mandated increases in benefit contributions and forced furlough days.

They held a similar protest last Tuesday, but expect a bigger crowd today now that school is out for the summer.
