Greektown Confrontation Charges Against Cops

A preliminary exam is scheduled for today for two Detroit police officers who have been charged with felony assault.

Charged in an assault at the Greektown Casino parking garage are Detroit Police Sergeants Raytheon Martin and Lacell Rue.

The Wayne County Prosecutors office determined the two had used excessive force in the punching and tasing of a 26 year old man just before 3 o’clock in the morning on July 22nd.

Prosecutors say the attack followed an argument, but that the victim had not made any aggressive physical moves toward police and was attacked while he was on the ground.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig responded that he is troubled that the two officers were charged with felonies.

He said this could have a chilling effect on officers if they are reluctant to use force when force is required.

The prosecutors office said evidence in the case will be presented at today’s exam.
